New Law Would Require Prescription for Decongestants

Alabama State Rep. Michael Millican has sponsored a bill that would require a prescription to get popular over-the-counter decongestants containing ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, or phenylpropanolamine. The bill is meant to help fight the spread of meth by restricting access to the raw materials. The bill would force those suffering from a cold or allergies to make a doctor's appoint and pay their co-pay instead of just buying the decongestants at the pharmacy. A Birmingham doctor notes that this might not be a good thing as going to the doctor's office when not absolutely necessary could put certain patients at risk for exposure to other germs which could prove dangerous, like cancer patients or pregnant women.
