AstraZeneca Expands R&D Partnership Efforts With New Integration Office

AstraZeneca's Research and Development division has a new team that will seek partnerships with leading public and private organizations to identify and capitalize on future science and technology trends. Anders Ekblom, former executive vice president of Global Medicines Development (GMD), will lead AZ's new Science and Technology Integration Office as well as continue to serve as CEO of AstraZeneca Sweden. Briggs Morrison, formerly of Pfizer, will fill Ekblom's GMD position. The team is looking to partner with agencies such as the European Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and the FDA’s Critical Path Initiative for opportunities for collaboration and innovation. “In times of increasing external and internal challenges for the pharmaceutical industry, it is crucial we continue to broaden and deepen our leadership, expertise and stakeholder networking to continue to deliver innovative, effective and cost efficient medicines to patients," says AZ's president of R&D Martin Mackay. “The appointments of Morrison and Ekblom will ensure we leverage our leadership to the fullest advantage of the business, our people and stakeholders.”
