Pfizer Recalls 28 Lots of Birth Control Pills

A packaging error in some birth control pills made by Pfizer could put women using the pills at risk of getting pregnant, and the company has recalled one million packets. Fourteen lots of Lo/Ovral-28 and 14 lots of generic Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol are being recalled, all of which were made by Pfizer and marketed by Akrimax Rx Products. The packets had an irregular number of active tablets, some with too many and some with too few, which was caused by mechanical problems as well as visual inspection failures. The problem has been corrected and Pfizer says there were no safety risks other than the risk of unintended pregnancy.
