Pharmacists in New Brunswick, Canada, are trying to convince the local government to work with them to create a pricing policy for generic drugs. The province's Pharmacists' Association is expressing concern that a price cap will be imposed, which would create financial uncertainty and other difficulties, and force pharmacists to operate at a loss. Unlike other provinces New Brunswick has never worked out a way to compensate pharmacists for dispensing fees, but rather determines what they will be paid. The Pharmacists' Association agrees with the government goal of lower generic prices and has offered several money-saving proposals, but has received no formal response. Health Minister Madeleine Dubé has indicated that her department is conducting an analysis and expects a decision on generic drug pricing in the spring.
