Rizatriptan is safe and effective as an intermittent but long-term treatment of migraine in adolescents, researchers explained at the annual meeting of the American Headache Society. Of the 606 patients involved in the study, fewer than 1 percent experienced serious drug-related adverse events. All of these events were classified as serious because they occurred after accidental use of an extra dose of rizatriptan within 24 hours. In 46 percent of treated attacks, the patients were pain-free within two hours of taking the medication.
