Janssen Research & Development Sponsors First of Its Kind Research Initiative to Advance Multiple Sclerosis Science

Johnson & Johnson Press Release (07/10/12)
Janssen Research & Development is contributing $5.4 million to a new research sponsorship that aims to discover what causes multiple sclerosis (MS) and to bring new forms of treatment to the market. The sponsorship calls for the Multiple Sclerosis Fund that has been set up by the Novato, Calif.-based Marin Community Foundation to create a partnership between public and private research collaborators that will work to broaden and improve what is known about MS and advance new ways of treating the disease. In addition, the alliance will make it possible to share data and integrate scientific research using state-of-the-art systems modeling tools and analytics. The goal of the alliance is to speed up the process of identifying new targets, biomarkers, and approaches to the treatment of MS. Janssen Research & Development's decision to contribute to the sponsorship is part of its effort to expand the company's "Healthy Minds" initiative, which was launched last year in order to help combat neurologic and brain disorders and to build on the commitment the company has made to neuroscience and mental health.
