Collaboration Between Sanofi and Joslin Diabetes Center to Focus on New Drugs For Diabetes

Sanofi and the Joslin Diabetes Center have announced a new collaboration that will work to promote the development new medicines for the treatment of diabetes and related disorders. The collaboration, which was announced at the 2012 Bio International Convention in Boston, will build on Joslin's experience in diabetes research and care, while focusing on four key areas within diabetes and related metabolic disorders. The goal of the collaboration is to identify potential new biologics or small drug candidates for the treatment of late complications of diabetes and new insulin analogs that have more targeted efficacy. The research will also look into addressing challenges related to insulin resistance and personalized medicine. Under the terms of the agreement, Sanofi will have the option to commercialize the results of the research, and both parties will have access to intellectual property for internal research use. The financial details of the collaboration are unknown.
