To drive care improvement in ADHD and reinforce the use of clinical guidelines and recommendations for disease management to improve patient outcomes and reduce the overall clinical and economic burden, NCQA developed and approved a HEDIS 2006 performance measure that assesses appropriate follow-up care for children prescribed an ADHD medication. First year reports for that measure are now available, and point toward a need for significant improvement.
