bullet Pharmacist e-Link CE Spotlight

thumbnail The Safety of COX-2 Pharmacotherapy for Patients in Pain
There are anecdotal reports about the COX-2 inhibitors of improved efficacy over the traditional NSAIDs. This program will help the practitioner identify those patients with specific risk factors, in whom the risks would outweigh potential benefits, and properly educate those for whom COX-2 use is still an option.
This program is supported by an educational grant from Pfizer Inc.

thumbnail New Approaches and Patient Counseling in the Treatment of Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis will create a significant problem with severe lifestyle impact to one in two women and one in four men over 50 years of age - many of your pharmacy patients. This program brings you insight to treatment of this patient population.
Commercial Support provided by Roche Laboratories Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline.

thumbnail Common Misconceptions with Bioequivalence and Interchangeability
This CE program examines the bioequivalence and interchangeability of drugs. Since several factors can influence the bioavailability of drugs, this activity highlights instances where sub-therapeutic responses, alterations in outcomes, or adverse events can be consequences of pharmacokinetic interactions.
This program is co-sponsored by ArcMesa Educators and Scinexa, LLC.

thumbnail Getting it Right: Application of the HEDIS Depression Guidelines to Improve Outcomes
Organizations like the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) and URAC are benchmarking how to measure quality through improved patient outcomes. NCQA's Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures are used to guide clinicians in best practices for treatment and management of patients with specific diseases, based upon relevance to practice, scientific evidence, and feasibility. This series of Sequential Learning activities is intended to assist clinicians in identifying, understanding and applying the HEDIS measures to improve outcomes for persons with depression.

It is recommended that these activities be completed in sequential order.

Level 100 Learning Activity: Assessing and Treating the Depressed Patient

Level 200 Learning Activity: Making HEDIS Count: Outcomes Measurements in Depression

Level 300 Learning Activity: Opportunities for Improvement - the HEDIS Antidepressant Medication Management (AMM) Measure

Level 400 Learning Activity: Connecting the Depressed Patient, the PCP, and Managed Care

This activity is supported through an unrestricted educational grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

thumbnail Managing Constipation in Adults: Recognizing The Pharmacist's Role
Pharmacists play a vital role in providing patient education for over-the-counter (OTC) therapies for many common disorders, constipation being just one. This CE program will review important aspects of constipation and highlight when it is necessary for the pharmacist to refer the patient to a physician for further evaluation.
This activity is supported by an educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim.

We gratefully acknowledge Amgen Inc. for its support of this activity.

thumbnail The Role of Pharmaceuticals in Reducing Cardiometabolic Risk:
Rethinking Pharmacy Benefit Design to Reduce the Burden on the Healthcare System

It is estimated that approximately 20-25 percent of the adult population has metabolic syndrome. Cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of people with metabolic syndrome and the leading cause of death in the US, is associated with nearly $400 billion in direct and indirect costs. To avoid escalating costs, employers and managed care organizations must reevaluate their approach to benefit design. An innovative pharmacy benefit plan that improves access to cost-effective pharmaceuticals is a critical component in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
The program is sponsored by the Benefit Design Institute and is supported through an educational grant from sanofi-aventis.
