Reports of counterfeit medications infiltrating the distribution chain have become widespread and undermine the confidence of patients in the medications they are taking, their physician, and pharmacist. It is estimated that five to eight percent of drugs worldwide are counterfeit.

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage: Helping Patients With More Choices and Better Benefits On December 8, 2003, President George W. Bush signed into law the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act (MMA) of 2003. It creates a new Part D, which establishes a prescription drug benefit for people with Medicare. This continuing education program will delve into key points related to implementation of this change in Medicare coverage. This program is supported by an educational grant from Informed Decisions.
Emerging Trends in HIV Combination Therapy: The Pharmacology and the Pharmacist
Upon successful completion of this new CE activity, the pharmacist should be better able to discuss current combination HIV therapies and identify key opportunities for pharmacist intervention with HIV treatment regimens. The program is supported by an educational grant from Roche Laboratories.

The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA) is considered the most significant change to the Medicare program since it was created as Title XVIII of the Social Security Act in 1965. This program contains a description of key components of the new drug coverage under Medicare with particular relevance to pharmacists such as structure of the benefit, access, formularies, pharmacist services, and economic impact.
